Great Blue Heron at Okotoks Stormwater Ponds

Too much rain or snow runoff into the Sheep River can pose severe flooding problems in Okotoks, Alberta. Two stormwater ponds were established to provide for excess water accumulation when required. It’s a park-like area with grass, wild flowers, reeds, and water (including a fountain). Various birds, small fish, muskrats, and, occasionally, deer are found in or near the ponds. I’ve seen Great Blue Herons and Black Terns fishing here. My photo shows a Great Blue Heron flying across one of the ponds to try his luck on the opposite shore.
