For the wary traveller, the thought of a Prairie Rattlesnake lurking in the sandstone may be a true nightmare. For me, it was a rare opportunity to spot these mysterious creatures amidst the fossil strewn hills of Dinosaur Provincial Park. On this unlikely occasion, this rattler was quietly resting under a hoodoo during it's most vulnerable time - right before shedding it's skin. The cloudy eyes indicates that the outer skin layer is nearly ready to go in favour of a newer layer below.
